Some reflections
Thinking and acting in very long term time horizons is extremely powerful. I did not previously realize how powerful (and probably still don’t)
But a pre-requisite of thinking and acting long term is only doing things that you care about in a long horizon.
This turns out to be an extraordinarily high bar and it narrows your universe. You have to say no to a lot of things. I suspect that this narrowing, this exclusion of optionality, is actually what prevents long term thinking and action.
When you back up and think about what you really want, and pursue that directly with the long term in mind, you will necessarily be forced to stop doing things that you currently think of as important. That is uncomfortable.
But you should do it.
